This is my first official review. I will be
posting most of my blogs as reviews from now on. As I have nothing
better to use my blog for, this will be what y'all get…

Today's review is on the book, The Great Tree of Avalon,
by T.A. Barron. Overall, the story flows quite well, and if you've ever
read the author's earlier books, telling the story of Merlin himself,
you'd get a better sense of the current book. Be sure to read T.A.
Barron's The Lost Years of Merlin series for further information and the basic background of this story.
The
story mostly follows Tamwyn, a young boy of seventeen born in the Year
of Darkness. As he grows, his adopted brother, Scree, leaves him to
find his own fate, and Tamwyn becomes a traveler's guide. As clumsy as
he is, one is shocked Tamwyn ever became successful. Eventually, he
runs – literally – into two young women on a personal quest to find the
Lady of the Lake. Llynia was as haughty as a
princess, being the Chosen One of the Order of the Drumadian
Priestesses, while Elliryanna, or Elli, is as normal as one could
possibly be. Unfortunately, the High Priestess Coerria decreed the two
women would make the best of travelers.
After many misadventures, they reach the Lake,
only to be turned away…or do they? Much is revealed, and much more is
made into mystery, as questions turn into more questions.

Excerpt from The Great Tree of Avalon:
As one world dies, another is born. It is a time both dark and bright, a moment of miracles.
In the mist-shrouded land of Fincayra,
an isle long forgotten is suddenly found, a small band of children
defeats an army of death, and a people disgraced win their wings at
last. And in the greatest miracle of all, a young wizard called Merlin
earns his true name: Olo Eopia, great man of many worlds, many times.
And yet…even as Fincayra is saves, it is lost—passing forever into the
Otherworld of the Spirits.
But
in that very moment, a new world appears. Born of a seed that beats
like a heart, a seed won by Merlin on his journey through a magical
mirror, this new world is a tree: the Great Tree. It stands as a bridge
between Earth and Heaven, between mortal and immortal, between shifting
seas and eternal mist.
Its
landscape is immense, full of wonders and surprises. Its populace is as
far-flung as the stars on high. Its essence is part hope, part tragedy,
and part mystery.
Its name is Avalon.
